Spoonbill: "Morning Celebration"

$1,200.

The spoonbill is noted for its extremely beautiful coloration and is known for its adaptability and resourcefulness.  Owning this painting not only forms a connection to that in your own personality but also accents how each of us have "true colors" that are beautiful as well.

This original painting will spark some fun knowledge sharing. Spoonbill species (mainly the Roseate Spoonbill) are found in Sarasota and throughout coastal and wetland areas of Florida. They frequent mangroves, tidal flats, estuaries, marshes, and shallow bays across the state.

Did you know this graceful ballerina:

- gets its distinctive pink color comes from carotenoid pigments in their diet (crustaceans and shrimp).
- has a wingspan of about 4.5–5 feet.
- has an unusual long, flattened, spoon-shaped bill — used to sweep side-to-side in shallow water to catch small fish and invertebrates. They rely more on tactile feeding than sight—sweeping the bill detects prey by touch.

About the work by Jody Mae Wright:
Size: 20"w x 24"t.  Acrylic on canvas.
Gallery wrapped (painted on all edges and no need for extra framing).

Technique: Jody combines her signature color abstract background with an almost impressionistic manner of depicting the spoonbill itself.  She uses a palette knife with unfettered movement and one can almost feel the water splashing as the Spoonbill bathes in the water.
